Winter Gritting Management Responsibility

Health and safety at work etc. act 1977

Your responsibility to employee’s members of the public

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) statistics show that slips, trips and falls are the most common cause of accidents within the work place.  To reduce the risk of slips on ice, frost or snow, you need to assess the risk and put in a system to manage it.
Section 3 of the Work Place and Welfare Regulations 1999 require every employer to make a suitable and sufficient assessment of –

  1. The risks to the health and safety of his employees to which they are exposed whilst they are at work; and
  2. The risks to the health and safety of persons not in his employment arising out of or in connection with the conduct by him of his undertaking.

Whenever the temperature falls to zero (or lower) our gritters will be out there spreading salt on your premises and helping you stay operational throughout the winter.  Spreading salt adequately and evenly is crucial if it’s going to have maximum effect of raising the road surface temperature to help prevent it from becoming icy.

By keeping car parks, roads and premises free from snow and ice we can help your business comply with Health and Safety requirements.  Block and Deck can take over where the local authority highways department stops, specialising in providing contract so grit and salt private roads, local business parks, retail arks, industrial parks and shopping centres.
